The ancestors of Nautilus evolved buoyant shells, a trait that allowed them to launch off the seafloor and become successful swimming predators known as cephalopods. As each generation struggled against increasingly clever predators like vertebrates, the cephalopods accumulated more and more sophisticated innovations through evolution. One adaptation lay in speed. In creatures such as squid, the shell became smaller, moved inside the body and all but vanished. Another adaptation lay in brainpower. This is the curved (!) screen in our reality center of the University of Groningen. We just finished building our own touch detection for it. We used six Optitrack v120 slim camera's which have a good sensitivity for infrared light. We used 16 cheap infrared emitters (the kind used for security systems) with a total of 1000 LED's. The touch detection software runs on three old computers each with two camera's connected. One extra computer combines the output from the detection computers and send event data to our main visualization system. This way we have (even using the old computers) enough processing power to be able to run the detection software at 60Hz and with a latency between 30 ms and 50 ms. It can detect without any problem 100 different touches at any time (more is possible, but it becomes slower) We used a modified version of Community Core Vision (CCV) 1.4 (nuigroup.com) (modified so it can do two camera's on one computer). The communication protocol is preferable TUIO (tuio.org) and we did install Multi-touch Vista (multitouchvista.codeplex.com), which translates TUIO events to WM_TOUCH events for windows 7. The demos you see in the video are from Multitouch for Java(tm) MT4J (mt4j.org/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page). The part where the wizards are throwing fireballs at each other is using msafluid (project home is at msavisuals.com/msafluid ). The curved screen itself is consist of a 3 mm dark acrylic layer, coated with a diffuser on the front. Illumination ...

Without question the most scenic. It's also the main location in Oahu where Hollywood movies are filmed. Such movies as Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates, Godzilla, Wind talkers, Pearl Harbor Mighty Joe Young and even a great deal of the TV show LOST was filmed here. It' also a huge tourist attraction where, as you can see, you can horseback ride, sail boat, 4 wheel, movie bus tours, jungle expedition, boat cruise, dinner, the list goes on :) It really is honestly the most photogenic place in all of Oahu. And by the way, I'm not paid to say that :) I actually did this video for free, there was no money involved. And I did it just because I love the location. The staff at Kualoa ranch were super awesome/helpful to work with when filming this, super accommodating, and they helped with what we needed to get the shots we wanted. I would for sure reccomend this place to ANY PHOTOGRAPHER, or anyone who wants an escape from the everyday world! I really think this place is one of Hawaii's best kept secrets. OK, Ive tried to do one of these fancy show your record player while playing the precious disc and present a fairly good sound at the same time-video. Since I dont have any video camera with a good mic, Im using my digital cams video function. So Ive put together the video of the record playing while using the sound of a transfer of the record. So the sound isnt live although it is the same record and the same record player. The record player is as you probably can see a Lenco L78 (with a built-in receiver and the whole thing was called Lenco 950) and its connected to a Onkyo CD receiver of more recent date. So this is a record that was recorded eh sometime probably 1946, since the beloved and maybe not that trustworthy source Wikipedia claims that 1946 was the year pianist Signorelli recorded with trumpet player Napoleon. I havent really been able to find the exact recording date of this beauty, but Im sure someone out there on Youtube with more knowledge than yours truly will tell me. Still, it is a jazz revival recording some old legendary jazz stars of the 1920s getting together again playing one of the Original Dixieland Jazz Bands hits. Drummer Tony Spargo (or Sparbaro or whatever) of course as you know played the drums in the above mentioned jazz band, and pianist Frank Signorelli, who played with ODJB briefly but is more famous for forming the Original Memphis Five together with Phil Napoleon. Trombonist Vernon Brown seems to have played with lots of jazz legends ...

NitroPlanes has a Brushless edition of the A-10. I decided to mount their "GumPack" Video camera on board for the maiden flight. Here is what happened. This A-10 has these statistics. Length 872 MM Wingspan: 968 MM Weight: 450 Gram Battery: 11.1V, 1.5 Amp Lipo Radio: 72 MHz, Channel ESC: 2, 20 Amp GLs Pretty impressive performance with great handling, even in the wind. Missing a small wood piece, was basically all that I found wrong and that was an easy thing to make. I'm not crazy about the radio on 72 Mhz, but all in all this plane looks nice and flies nicely for me. The 18 Gram Camera is totally cool. Very small, it had a 2Gig card with it and was easy to mount and operate in the bright daylight. You can see for yourself how the video came out. I was and still am very impressed with this tiny camera. Answer: Two reasons; 1) shutter speeds slower than 15s aren't always possible at higher sensitivities and 2) you'll get cleaner results at low sensitivities. Question: What about Self Timer? Answer: Self Timer will still cause camera shake unless you add a sandbag on top of your camera on the same axis with the tripod head. The sandbag will absorb the vibration, minimizing the chances of camera shake. Question: Why aren't ƒ/1.4 lenses recommended? Answer: ƒ/1.4 lenses are designed for using at large apertures no smaller than F/4. Exceeding F/4 will result in lens diffraction, which decreases the image quality. A lens that is capable of delivering clean results at low apertures is recommended in order to accomplish slow shutter speeds slower than 15s.
